Location Spotlight: Sugar Creek Metropark

February had some amazingly warm days! I was able to get out with both boys and scout new locations. I never want my photography to look stale or like someone else's work. The worst thing to me is when you go to a location and you are with a client sitting behind a line of photographers all waiting for the exact same photo op. If I have a picture of my family hanging on my wall, I want it to be as unique as my family is. This is why I work so hard to find new and interesting locations!

On this particularly warm and sunny day, I took the boys to Sugar Creek Metropark. Of course I was by myself with them and we didn't make it too far. Just imagine having a 19 lb weight on the front, camera gear on your back, and a 6 yr old saying his feet hurt! Anyhow, we were able to investigate a couple of the areas and get a beautiful photograph of my favorite 6 year old.

Sugar Creek Metropark houses a planted prairie, Osage Orange Tunnel, and the Sycamore Ridge. This metropark is also great if you ride horses as there are many miles of bridle trail available.

The photograph below shows my stubborn 6 year old. We were walking the planted prairie midday. Even though it was winter, the prairie provides really nice color for portrait backdrops. I cannot wait to explore in the spring, summer, and fall to see what other types of backdrops this amazing location provides!
